Vaginal Hemorrhoids: Does it Really Exist?
Many people have wrong information regarding vaginal hemorrhoids and often confuse it with rectal hemorrhoids. It is totally a misconception and one should know this fact. Veins around vagina cannot undergo inflammation as it is made up of connective tissues which is flexible and regains its original shape and size whenever pressure is applied. Sometimes there may be an outgrowth or bulge around the vagina known as vaginal warts that resembles hemorrhoids but strictly it has nothing to do with hemorrhoids.
It is a case of mistaken identity especially in young girls and women. A hemorrhoid is a condition that develops around rectum only. But due to constipation, there arises a problem of straining which results in the inflammation of rectal veins supplying blood around anus. It results in severe pain and bleeding during ejection of faeces.
A bulge in the vagina can be caused during pregnancy due to excessive weight of the uterus that exerts pressure on the veins supplying blood around vagina. Moreover constipation is a common problem during pregnancy and it causes straining of the veins supplying blood to the vagina and rectum. This may cause hemorrhoids during pregnancy but a hemorrhoid does not affect the area aroung vagina.
Pregnant women are advised to perform certain exercises to relax the walls of vagina and perianal areas. Applying pressure for nearly about 10 seconds and then relaxing the muscles of vagina is considered a good exercise during pregnancy. Vaginal hemorrhoids do not exist and if there is development of some out growth it could be something else. Ignoring it may involve risk and one should consult a doctor immediately.
